Poultry Mortality Composting

Composting of poultry mortalities is a controlled, natural process in which beneficial organisms reduce and transform organic waste into a predictable and useful end product.

Composting is a good option for both large and small producers, but it does require some labor and space. Indigenous populations of bacteria and fungi will start to decompose the organic matter when conditions are favorable.

This information is further summarized in The University of Tennessee Extension publication PB1445, Dead Poultry Composting.
